      It is a long cord worn around the waist used for fastening the apparel. It is hemmed with fringes that hang from the waist. Priests wear black, bishops wear purple, cardinals wear red, and the pope wears white. There are two types of cinctures: one is a rope-like narrow girdle and the other type is a broad ribbon of cloth that runs around the waist is called "band cincture"
